Releasing a book 'Satyamev Jayate' on the occasion of 37th anniversary of imposition of Emergency, Swamy termed June 25, 1975, the day when Emergency was imposed, as the "blackest day" in the country's history.
"The futile attempt made by Indira Gandhi to follow the policies of Soviet Union and establishing dictatorship rule in the country was successfully countered by people like J. P Narayan, Morarji Desai and other leaders.
"Today also, we need to fight strongly against the informal forms of Emergency in our country which might lead to be a bigger problem in future," said Swamy.
"We had also gauged the indication at that time that Indira Gandhi had the plans of imposing Emergency on her mind. And if strict measures are not taken on such indications today, we are likely to witness a similar phase," he said.
He said when he fled to America during the Emergency and became the opposition's spokesperson there, he was surprised to know that people were not aware that JP and Desai were in jail along with many other people.
The problem with the youth then, Swamy said, was that they believed that struggling on such issues was an impossible task and the trend still continues.
