"We are moving in the opposite direction which is not a healthy thing," Kasarvalli told PTI on the sidelines of the ongoing International Film Festival of India 2012 here.
'Kurmavatara' revolves around Gandhian values.
"Young generation needs to know this (Gandhian value) but they are not aware of it. If they watch my film once, they will know about it," said the director, who has won several national awards for his Kannada flicks.
Kasarvalli said Mahatama Gandhi was one social reformer who laid a lot of stress on the ethics. "Gandhiji always said unless we sanctify our soul, the transformation was not possible... That is why I picked it up and made a film on it," he reasoned.
Based on the Kannada novel of the same name by noted writer K Veerabhadrappa, the film won the 2011 National award for the best feature film in Kannada.
The movie revolves around a government employee, Anand Rao, who is on the verge of retirement and whose striking resemblance to Mahatma Gandhi helps him bag a role in a TV serial.
