The census would collect information on cattle, buffaloes, yaks, goats, pigs, sheep, horses and ponies, camels, dogs, rabbits, fowl, duck and emu and mechanised equipment related to rearing of livestock, Special Secretary, Animal Resources Department, Udai Shankar Nandi said here.
"The census has immense importance for the economic growth of the country as livestock rearing practices have significant financial implications in the rural sector," he said.
The first all India Livestock census was held in 1919-20 and thereafter being held every five years.
According to the 18th All India Livestock Census in 2007, livestock population recorded in the state included 192 lakh cattle, eight lakh buffaloes, 16 lakh sheep, 151 lakh goats, eight lakh pigs, 519 lakh fowl and 120 lakh ducks approximately, he said.
