Mahant of Raghunath mutt, Laxman Dash, was arrested at Dharakote yesterday and a US-make automatic pistol, two 9 mm magazines, a mobile phone and Rs 11,000 cash were seized from him, the sources said.
Police said that the mahant was the prime accused in a robbery at Baharapur on November 25 when three motorbike borne miscreants looted Rs 73,000 in cash from Purna Chandra Behera, a village level worker who was to distribute old age and widow pensions at Jagannathpur, at gun-point.
The mahant revealed the names of the two other accused in the crime, inspector in charge, Badagada BN Swain. PTI
