"The state government has decided to modify the dress code for lady school teachers after due consideration of their demands," School and Mass Education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda said.
"There will be no change in the pink colour of the saree. But, keeping their demand in view, the sarees will have black colour 'dhadi' and also black 'anchal'," Nanda said.
The minister said secondary school lady teachers would also be allowed to wear handloom fabric sarees.
Nanda hoped that the government's decision to allow secondary school lady teachers to use handloom fabrics would benefit and motivate the weavers community to preserve the state's unique handloom heritage.
"The specification of the colour and border will be communicated to the weaver societies by the handloom textile and handicraft department along with orders to produce adequate number of sarees at reasonable rates," Nanda said.
