'People should know their counterparts from other regions'

He was speaking at a function organised here to mark the local release of the Army-commissioned 'Northeast Trilogy', a three-volume work on rich and diverse culture and social life of the Northeastern region of India, co-authored by Kunal Verma and Dipti Bhalla.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy released the book and handed over a copy to Gen Singh at the Military Station here.

Gen Singh said the army had approached the government to request all states to bring out the book in various language versions.

The three-set pictorial work has been conceived as tribute to the bio-diversity, cultural vibrancy and anthropological richness of the entire Northeastern region. They have been titled "East of Kangchendzonga", "Brahma's Creation" and "Children of the Dawn" respectively.

The trilogy together run into 1,294 pages, including pictures of panoramic beauty of the region and highlights of the culture and heritage of communities of the area.

The first volume encompasses Sikkim, North Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya, the second comprises Arunachal Pradesh and the final volume has Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.

The national release of the book was done by Gen Singh in New Delhi on the Army Day on January 15.
