The only Indian film to be selected for RIFF this year, the film will be competing in the festival's Cinema XXI section. The festival runs from November 9 to 17.
"While making 'Tasher Desh' my attempt has been to stay as true to Tagore's original work while presenting it in a modern day format that has become synonymous with my school of cinema," said Mukherjee, who goes by the moniker Q, admitting that adapting the work of Tagore was a challenge for him.
"The most important thing about such an international film festival is the line-up of films against which mine will compete. Thirty films from across the world have been chosen and it is an honour to compete against directors like Elisabetta Sgarbi and Thomas Heise," said Mukherjee.
Slated for release in India next year, the film has Bollywood film-maker Anurag Kashyap as co-producer.
Q, who left his well paying job in advertising to start making films under his banner 'Overdose', came into prominence with with his documentary 'Love in India' which won the National Award for the best film on family values in 2010.
