The superhero film scored its other box office history as it earned a USD 1.331 billion on top of the Harry Potter franchise's USD 1.328 billion.
Sitting comfortably at number one of highest grossing film of all time worldwide is "Avatar" with USD 2.8 billion, followed by "Titanic" with USD 2.185 billion, The Hollywood Reporter said.
When the film was first launched in April, the live-action gained USD 392.5 million opening worldwide. Within 19 days it matched the record for speed previously set by "Avatar" and "Deathly Hallows" in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
It easily became the highest-grossing movie of 2012 after beating "The Hunger Games".
Domestically, "The Avengers" also reached a milestone on Friday, June 1 by surpassing "The Dark Knight" to become the third top grossing film of all time with a collection of USD 538.1 million. The Batman film earned USD 533 million domestically.
