While the controversial slavery flick and the Hugh Jackman-Anne Hathaway starring musical garnered record-breaking box office numbers on their Christmas Day openings, Peter Jackson's fantasy film still reigned supreme.
'The Hobbit' raked in almost USD 33 million over the weekend to garner USD 222.7 million at the US box office, reported E! Online.
Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti western "Django Unchained" came in second with a USD 30.7 million opening while "Les Miserables" ranked third with USD 28 million.
"Parental Guidance" landed in a higher-than-expected fourth-place spot, taking home USD 14.8 million and topping Tom Cruise's 'Jack Reacher'.
