"The human rights violation in Tibet is at its peak. We don't have the right to practice our religion, our language. There are more soldiers of China than Tibetans. That is the reason that the people are indulging in self-immolation as a mode of protest," said Pema Jungney, former speaker and MP of Tibetan Parliament in exile.
As part of the campaign, Jungney along with other leaders were on tour of eastern and north eastern states.
Asked whether Tibetans taking up Indian citizenship would dilute their cause, Jungney said, "We allow dual citizenship as Tibetans living in exile can't go back to China controlled Tibet.
"The Indian government has always stood by the cause of Tibet and always helped the Tibetans living in exile," he said.
Jungney in last four days met several leaders from Bengal including Union minister of state for Urban Development Deepa Dasmunsi and Trinamool Congress MP Derek O' Brien, besides Governor M K Narayanan.
