Making a statement in the assembly amidst walkout by opposition Left Front MLAs, Biswas said that the state government had constructed flats for common people under public rental housing projects where the occupants were required to pay a meagre monthly rent.
He said that several political personalities had bought the flats paying an amount which was much lower than the market rates.
Biswas, who was allowed to make the statement by the Speaker following a media report that former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, CITU leader Shyamal Chakraborty and Leader of the Opposition Surya Kant Mishra were among the beneficiaries,said that there were 89 such estates at present across the city.
He said that the matter would be debated and a probe would be initiated.
