1.04 kg brown sugar seized, drug peddler held

Around one kg of brown sugar, valued at over Rs one crore in the international market, was seized from a drug peddler here by the anti-narcotic squad of the city police.
The seizure of 1.04 kg of brown sugar was made near the boat jetty here on a tip-off and alleged drug peddler Mukesh, 25, hailing from Marthandam in Kanyakumari district of neighbouring Tamil Nadu arrested yesterday, police said.
Mukesh told the police that he had sourced the narcotic from drug cartels based in Chennai and Puducherry and that it was produced in Afghanistan.
Police had received information that drug peddlers had been stocking narcotics to meet the demand during the upcoming tourist season.
