In order to ease city commuters' travels, the Aam Aadmi Party government has decided to build 1,200 bus shelters across the national capital.
According to the government, it will build modern stainless steel bus shelters on public-private partnership model in different areas of the city.
The then Sheila Dikshit government had developed and modernised over 1,500 bus shelters ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
"We have decided to build 1,200 bus shelters across the capital, especially in rural areas. Government will not have to shell out much money on this project as all bus shelters will be built on PPP model," said a senior government official.
Under PPP model, the concessionaire will build bus shelters and enjoy the rights to collect revenue from displaying advertisements at earmarked locations on bus shelters, and in turn pay a prescribed concession fee to DTC on every advertisement, official said.
"The transport department will soon float tenders for 1,200 modern bus shelters in the capital. By building more such bus shelters, people will not have to walk far from their homes to board buses," official added.
