1,960 NHRC notices for cases across country in 2016-17: Govt
Press Trust of India New Delhi As many as 1,960 notices were sent to various provincial governments and other agencies by the NHRC during 2016-17, with 740 of these, the highest among all states, pertaining to violation cases in Uttar Pradesh, the Lok Sabha was today informed.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said this in response to a question on the total number of notices issued by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
According to the Centre, a total of 1,960 notices were sent from April 1 last year to April 1, 2017 and 378 notices from April till June 30 this year.
In 2016-17, as many as 740 notices were sent by the rights panel for incidents occurring in Uttar Pradesh followed by 143 notices for violation cases reported in Delhi, the Union minister said in a written reply.
For April to June period also, 117 notices were sent for incidents occurring in Uttar Pradesh, also the highest among all the states, followed 78 notices pertaining to Rajasthan.
