Goa government's bursary scheme has received 1,988 applications of which those who have secured 60 per cent and above marks would be given grants in the first lot, officials said.
The state government, in a note released today, said total 1,988 applications have been received for the past academic year 2014-15, with financial liability totalling to Rs four crore.
The scheme, which was notified last year, is implemented by the state education department.
The department, however, has decided to take up applications of students who have secured 60 per cent marks and above in the first lot, the release said.
The education department has said the basic purpose of the scheme is to enhance gross enrolment ratio of higher education from the current 32.2 per cent to at least 45 per cent.
All students pursuing higher education, including professional colleges and post graduation, are covered under the scheme which gives grants on the actual fees paid by a student.
The scheme also covers the degree courses from NIIT, IIT and IIM.
