Police said the bus rolled over into a ditch while passing by Kasipur jungle leading to the death of one person on spot.
The deceased was identified as Haripada Malakar.
There was unconfirmed report of one more death.
Of the 40 injured, eight were taken to Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital as their condition was serious while others were treated at heath centres at Khatra and discharged.
