1 held for stealing Gambier consignment

One more person has been arrested in the case of alleged stealing and attempt to sell 612 drums of imported Gambier liquid, a cheap alternative to kattha, police said today.
Sirajuddin Rahi alias Ansari was arrested from the godown of one of the arrested accused Inder Pal at Bawana Industrial area on specific inputs yesterday at around 5 PM by a joint team of Delhi and Mumbai police, when he came to meet Pal, a senior police official said.
Delhi Police Crime Branch had arrested Inder Pal (55) and Vijay (48) from the godown in Bawana industrial area and recovered the 612 stolen drums of the chemical, used for polishing leather and making artificial kattha on last Thursday.
The consignment was imported from Indonesia to Mumbai and was bound for Yamuna Nagar in Haryana. They had abandoned the truck at Yamuna Nagar and it was seized by the police. After two-three days, the chemical was shifted to Delhi in the godown owned by Pal.
Pal and Vijay were searching for a buyer when the police raided the godown on specific information.
During interrogation, 37-year-old Sirajuddin said he had come in contact with Zaved and Salau of Vapi (Gujarat).
He allegedly got the idea of theft and disposing off items from Customs from them.
"As per information, he was arrested by Maharashtra Police in similar type of case along with Zaved in November 2011 and had remained in jail. After coming out of jail in May last year, he continued his malpractice and was arrested again yesterday," Additional CP (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.
