Sixteen members of the family of Arjunan of Bethanaickenpalayam were travelling in the van to Myualkaradu village, about 65 km from here, for the marriage of his 19- year-old daughter Rama when the vehicle overturned while negotiating a curve near Kothampadi, they said.
64-year-old grandmother of the bride died on the spot while Arjunan, his wife and 13 others were injured.
The driver of the van, who escaped unhurt, had been arrested for rash driving, police said.
Nine of the injured were admitted to Attur Government Hospital while four who were in a serious condition were rushed to Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital here.
