The blast took place in a household on the 25th floor of a high-rise residential building in the northern suburbs of Xi'an, damaging windows and doors of nearby apartments, rescuers said.
One of the family members has been confirmed killed at the blast site while six injured people are receiving medical treatment, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Today's incident followed a massive explosion of an oil pipeline in Qingdao city three days ago in which 52 people were killed and over 130 injured.
