1 killed in fire at cracker unit

One person was killed and at least 12 others were injured when fire broke out in a cracker-making unit after an explosion at Tanti Sahi in Odisha's Nayagarh district today, police said.
While one body was recovered from the unit where crackers were being made and stocked, 12 persons with burn injuries were shifted to hospital, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), J R Satpathy said.
Two of the injured persons are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here, while 10 others were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated, police said.
Fire brigade swung into action to extinguish the blaze and an operation was launched to ascertain if someone was still trapped in the gutted structure, they said.

Investigation was in progress to ascertain the cause of the fire and whether the unit was functioning illegally, police added.
