10,099 recruited for TN police youth brigade
Press Trust of India Chennai More than 10,000 people have been selected for the newly-formed Tamil Nadu Special Police Youth brigade, an initiative announced by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with a view to assist the short-staffed police department in their multifarious activities.
Signalling their induction, Jayalalithaa handed over appointment orders to a batch of 25 persons, among the 10,099 recruited, at the state secretariat here, an official release said.
The Chief Minister had in October 2012 announced the initiative to create the brigade whose personnel would be assigned work such as traffic regulation, delivery of Court summons, crowd regulation, night patrolling and driving of police vehicles. They would be paid an honorarium of Rs 7,500 per month.
As per the announcement, applications were received from 1,49,488 youths under the age of 40 and after a written examination and physical fitness screening 10,099 personnel were selected, the release said.
