The Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation today booked two directors of the Rural Development Department and eight others an alleged corruption case.

The case was registered on the basis of allegations regarding purchase of stationery items, banners and hoardings by the Rural Development Department from a select group of businessmen, causing a huge loss to the state exchequer, an SVO officer told PTI.

The case was registered against two directors, three assistant commissioners of development, four district panchayat officers of the Rural Development Department, and branch manager of the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Limited in Jammu, the officer said.

"The public servants by abuse of their official positions have purchased the items illegally and defeating the purpose enshrined in the welfare schemes meant for the poor and the needy people under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act ( MGNREGA)," the officer said.
