10 of a family killed after truck overturns

Ten people, including a five-month-old baby girl, died and two injured when a speeding truck overturned on a family sleeping along the road side in the city, police said today.
The incident took place at the Rail Bazar area late last night, when the truck overturned after its driver lost control over the vehicle after hitting a broken manhole, said Prabhakar Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police.
The family was among the few homeless families who were staying in shacks on the road side near Rail Bazar police station, he said.
Hearing the impact of the accident, locals gathered around and informed the police, following which police and fire-fighters rushed to the spot.
Victims were rescued and taken to the hospital, police said adding, that ten of them died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Baby (48), Aneesh (40), Chandbibi(18), Afsana(19), Gopu(19), Sharif(16), Nazir (12), Naseem (11), Aleefsa (5) and five-month-old Zicra, the SP said.
The two survivors in the tragedy have been identified as Naseer (50) and his mother Khatoon (80).
Truck driver manged to run away from the spot. Police has seized the vehicle and registered a case.
