10 tonnes of mangoes being ripened artificially seized

Nearly 10 tonnes of mangoes allegedgly being ripened artificially were seized from a godown here today.
Acting on a tip-off, officials from Food Safety Cell raided the godown in Kuniyamuthur and seized mangoes worth Rs. 10 lakh, police said.
Some 250 carbide stones, a hazardous substance, kept among the mangoes in a bid to make them ripe, were also seized.
Stringent action would be taken against the owner of the seized mangoes, after registering case under Food Safety act, they said.
