Fourteen people had gone to fetch water from the tank in Solankia village on Sheo road last evening. They all were standing on the cover of the round-shaped water tank waiting for their turn to fetch water from the opening of the tank, they said.
They were standing in the middle with the support of a rusted girder which suddenly broke and all of them fell into the 25-feet deep tank which was almost dry, police said.
"The Water Works Department supplies water to the public tank and there was no water for the last few days. Water was supplied to the tank last evening and all the women and girls rushed to the tank to get water. It was almost a stampede-like situation when they heard about the water supply," police said.
