10-year RI for police inspector

A fast track mahila court here has sentenced a police inspector to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for abetting suicide of a 32-year-old woman, accused in a job racket case in 2007.
According to the prosecution, two youths approached the Superintendent of Police alleging that three persons cheated them of Rs three lakh after promising a job.
The complaint was forwarded to Thanjavur Medical College Police station and the inspector C Sethumanimadhavan registered a case against Akilandeswari, Janakiraman and Ilayaraja under various sections of the IPC, including cheating.
While Janakiraman and Ilayaraja were arrested, the police inspector summed Akilandeswari, a resident of Coimbatore, to Thanjavur.
When she arrived at Thanjavur bus stand, the police official picked her in a police vehicle and made her stay in a lodge, where she committed suicide by hanging.
A suicide note was found in the lodge in which she named some persons, whose actions led to her death.

Based on a complaint from her mother, police registered a case and arrested Sethumanimadhavan and another accused Balasubramanian.
The judge Poorna Jaya Anandh held Sethumanimadhavan guilty of the charges and convicted and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment yesterday.
Balasubramanian died during the pendency of the case.
