With this, Kullu would be entering the list of 63 places in the country to have installed the tricolour, fluttering at height of 100 feet or more.
The tricolor will be hoisted near Dev Sadan in front of Dhalpur Maidan, venue of Kullu Dussehra and the area will be developed as a multi-purpose cultural complex in future, Kullu Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kanwar said.
Besides being a matter of pride for Kullu, the site of the flag will emerge as a popular destination for local people and tourists and make every Indian feel proud, Kanwar said, adding that dimensions of the flag which would be dedicated to the courage and valour of Indian soldiers would be 30 ft X 20 ft.
National Flag of the dimension of 20 feet X 30 feet on such lofty height is known as 'Monumental Flag', which is not lowered at the sunset as it is properly illuminated during the night.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had taken a policy decision onDecember 23, 2009, allowing the National Flag to fly day and night on a flagpole of a height of 100 ft and above with proper illumination.
