Mateshwari Devi is older than Edith Dewhurst from Greater Manchester, who is oldest person in the world to have partial hip replacement surgery, as per Guinness World Records at age of 103.
Devi, had a fall which lead to fracture and traumatic arthritis of hip joints. A team of doctors at Jaypee Hospital, under the mentorship of Dr Sanjay Gupta (joint replacement surgeon) and Dr Anshumali Choudhary (head of anaesthesia and pain management) performed this surgery and patient was discharged in five days. Patient is now doing daily activity comfortably.
According to Dr Choudhary, "Administering anaesthesia at such advanced age involves high risks. This particular patient suffered from irregular heartbeat, high level of thyroid hormones, problems of kidney, feeble hearing and shortening of the backbone.
"However, with support from our doctors and team of experienced anaesthetists, we had seamless procedure with no complication during and after surgery," she said.
