The Customs department has seized 105 kg of ephedrine allegedly meant to be smuggled to Malaysia and arrested one person in this connection.
Ephedrine is a "controlled substance" under Schedule A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and its illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, import and export was punishable, a Customs release said on Monday.
Based on a tip, officials examined a consignment declared as containing bangles on Saturday.
It was found that elongated polythene pouches were concealed tightly packed in black hard plastic covers along the walls of the cartons and contained a suspicious white coloured substance, the release said.
The white powder weighing 105 kg tested positive for Ephidrine and was seized under the NDPS Act, 1985.
One person, identified as Syed Azeez, has been arrested, it said.
