"The children (aged between 12 and 14), trafficked from villages of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, were involved in stitching and embroidery work and had to work for more than 12 hours a day. For this, they were getting a meagre amount of Rs 50 to Rs 100 a week," BBA said in a release.
While four employers were arrested, one managed to escape during the rescue operation which was led by P V Tyagi, Tehsildar of Dabri police station, accompanied by police, members of Labour Department and activists of BBA.
The rescued children were trafficked to Delhi by local agents from villages in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the NGO said.
"I was brought here by a relative who gave me away to this employer. I work from 9 AM till 12 AM and I used to get Rs 50 in a week for my work," said 12-year-old Bansi (name changed to protect identity).
According to BBA Chairperson R S Chaurasia, a large number of children were being trafficked from UP and Bihar to other states for work.
"The way these children were being hired for hazardous occupations, it goes to show that the employers were not afraid of Child Labour or Bonded Labour Act", Chaurasia said.
"Labour Department is mainly responsible for this as they are not implementing the directions of the High Court in releasing arrear wages to the children and Rs 20,000 as compensation from the employers," he alleged.
