CBI has chargesheeted 14 people, including 11 former UCO Bank officials and two directors of a Nagpur-based firm, for allegedly causing loss to the tune of Rs 36 crore to the nationalised bank by fraudulently sanctioning loans.
According to CBI, two directors of M/s Maven Industries Limited, a private firm which manufactures food items, were hand-in-glove with the UCO Bank officers in getting the loans sanctioned.
The charge sheet in the case was filed before the Special Judge for CBI in Nagpur yesterday, against Maven Industries, its two directors -- Ashok Kumar Rathi and Kishore Kumar Rathi, besides two former Executive Directors of UCO Bank -- Bijay Kumar Dutta and Virendra Kumar Dutta -- and nine other officials including then General Manager, then Deputy General Manager and then Assistant General Manager.
The investigation agency charged all of them under Sections 420, 471, 120 (B) of IPC and substantive offences thereof and Section 13 (2)(d) read with Section 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for causing huge losses to the bank.
Last year on March 31, CBI had registered a case against Maven Industries, its directors and UCO Bank officials on allegations that loans were sanctioned by violating bank guidelines to the firm, which siphoned off the money.
After thorough investigations in the case, CBI chargesheeted the accused yesterday.
CBI spokesman R K Gour today said over phone that other officers involved in the fraud are -- Ayyapan Krishnamurthy, K V Kulkarni, B V Ramesh -- all General Managers (now retired) -- AGM Rajesh Sundram, DGM R Muhuyndra, and retired AGM Subhash Satpal, Nishit Mukherjee and others.
