A total of 11 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers have been sent packing for being absent from office without authorisation for more than five years.

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) on January 4 issued orders sacking all 11 officers in one go, saying long absence has been considered as their deemed resignation from IRS (Custom and Excise). Besides, they will not be eligible for any retirement benefits.

The resignation will take effect from the date the officers had been absent, the order said.
