Thick smoke engulfed a pit at Qinling gold mine of China National Gold Group in Lingbao city last night, trapping 12 workers and six management staff, officials said.
Rescuers retrieved seven bodies from the pit.
Of the 10 people found alive, one failed to respond to emergency treatment while the other nine were recuperating, Xinhua news agency reported.
One more body was retrieved today. He was identified as a patrolman who had been missing for nearly 30 hours.
A similar accident was reported in a neighbouring gold pit where six workers were trapped yesterday.
