11 nominations filed so far for 1st phase polls

For the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal slated for April 17, 11 nominations have been filed so far, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta said.
For the four parliamentary seats which are going to polls in the first phase, Trinamool Congress, BJP, CPI(M), Forward Bloc and BSP each had filed their nominations, including six registered Independents, Gupta told reporters here today.
In the two Assembly by-polls to be held at Moynaguri and Kumargram, two nominations had been filed by Trinamool Congress and SUCI(C) each.
Gupta said that monitoring of law and order situation had already begun with 'vulnerability mapping' of hamlets in all the 42 seats.
So far, 3,614 hamlets had been identified as 'vulnerable' while 2,994 'trouble makers' had been marked, with initiation of preventive actions under IPC and CrPC.
Across the state, preventive action against 9,698 cases had been initiated, he said.

Gupta said that execution of 16,811 NBWs had already started since March 5 while another 42,376 were pending.
Illegal arms, ammunition and bombs had also been confiscated, while the expenditure monitoring panel had seized Rs 95.94 lakh illegal cash and three kg of gold worth Rs 91.50 lakh from the airport today, leading to the arrest of eight persons, he said.
Illicit liquor was also seized from various points by flying squad personnel, he said.
