At least 11 policemen were injured today when a bomb targeted their armoured vehicle in Egypt's restive North Sinai governorate, officials said.
The roadside bomb planted by unidentified militants targeted the police armored vehicle which was going to Al- Masaeed district near Al-Arish city of the governorate.
The blast resulted in one police officer and 10 conscript getting severely injured, the Ministry of Interior said, adding that the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were being treated.
Egypt's North Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the 2011 revolution that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military personnel have increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013 by military following massive protests against his rule.
Over 600 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
