At least 12 people, including six women, have been booked for allegedly beating up a couple over a petty dispute at a housing society off Ghodbunder road in the city, police said today.

The complainant Nita Dantawate, in a memorandum to Maharashtra Director General of Police, has stated that recently an election to the managing committee of their housing society was held in which her husband got elected.

"After the election, the members who lost the polls started harassing us," she alleged.

"On April 18, there was a dispute over parking of vehicles in the complex and one of the members removed our two wheeler parked in the usual slot. When we asked about it, the society members gathered and abused me and my husband. We were beaten and manhandled by the accused," she further alleged.

Following the incident, two police personnel came to the spot but failed to intervene in the matter, she said.

"We also tried calling the police control room, but did not get any assistance," she said.

A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered at Kasarwadawali police station against the 12 accused on April 20, an official said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, police added.
