Twelve inmates today escaped from a juvenile remand home at Noida Phase II after they were shifted from Meerut, with the district magistrate ordering an inquiry into the incident, police said.
"Twelve juveniles from Gautam Buddha Nagar hall escaped this morning. The security guards saw three juveniles while they were escaping and tried to stop them, but they managed to flee," they said.
However, one of the inmates was caught by the security guards, police said.
"I have ordered an inquiry into the incident," said NP Singh, District Magistrate, Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
Juvenile Remand Home Officer Meerut, Nem Chand said that Women Welfare Department Principal Secretary Renuka Kumar had ordered the shifting of juvenile undertrials of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad and Hapur from the Meerut remand home after violence was witnessed there.
Noida had made arrangements for a juvenile remand home at an old court building at Noida Phase II and the shifting was scheduled to be done by August 3 as per the principal secretary's directions.

Noida Phase II SHO and Deputy Superintendent of Police visited the site at the old court building yesterday and found some deficiencies following which they submitted a report to SSP Preetinder Singh, stating that the site was not safe for a remand home, police said.
The SSP then sent the report to district magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar who forwarded it to the Meerut district magistrate.
Ignoring the report, the Meerut remand home shifted 70 juvenile undertrials to Noida remand home last night.
Out of the 70 juvenile undertrials, 40 from Gautam Buddha Nagar were put in one hall and in another hall, 30 from Ghaziabad were placed, police said.
