Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today seized "unaccounted" cash of over Rs 16,000 from 12 traffic policemen, including constables and home guards, during a surprise check when the latter were catching drunk drivers.
Based on a tip-off that some of traffic policemen allegedly pocketed fine amount collected during their drive against drunk riders, ACB officials conducted surprise checks near Begumpet Traffic Police station here late last night and recovered Rs 16,440 from them, an ACB official said.
"No one has been arrested so far. A case will be registered in this connection and a report will also be submitted to Telangana government before proceeding with necessary action against the traffic cops," ACB Inspector Mallikarjun Reddy said.
"During the raid, we found the unaccounted money with 12 traffic policemen attached with Begumpet Traffic police station, including Inspector A Srinivas, Sub-Inspector Dilip Kumar, an ASI besides constables and home guards. The amount has been seized and there was no mention of this cash in the personal cash register of the cops," the ACB official explained.
The traffic police were subsequently questioned, but all of them did not reply properly on the unaccounted money, the official said adding further investigation was on.
