At least 13 Nepalese women, who were allegedly being trafficked on the pretext of jobs, were rescued from hotels in India by an NGO and have been brought back to the country.

Maiti India, an NGO has brought eight women from Bangalore and five from Ahmedabad to Kathmandu on Tuesday, Balkrishna Pandey, a representative of the organisation, said.

The Nepalese women aged between 17 and 40 were rescued from various places, including hotels in India.

These women were taken by brokers to different parts of Indian cities in the pretext of providing them with attractive jobs, according to Pandey.

The women have been handed over to the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, Pandey told PTI.

Annually tens of thousands of Nepalese women are being flown mainly to India with the promise of lucrative jobs.
