As part of the Maharashtra government's ongoing water conservation programme, as many as 3,087 cement nallah bandhs (CNBs) and 138 minor irrigation projects would be inaugurated on August 14.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan would preside over the main function in Sinnar in Nashik district.
"The projects have been taken up for multiple purposes and they are getting a good response," Water Conservation and Employment Guarantee Minister Nitin Raut said.
As part of phase one of the programme, as many as 1,450 CNBs have been completed, he said.
"For the project, the finance comes from the state exchequer, the Chief Minister's fund, and funds from local MPs and MLAs. The project has been widely appreciated and is getting good response," Raut said.
Principal Secretary V Giriraj said each CNB costs nearly Rs 12 lakh.
"A CNB provides water for about four hectares and holds about 10 TMC Water and ideally gets filled up three times during the rainy season. It would help in ground water recharge. Trees would also be planted in the neighbouring places to increase the green cover," Giriraj said.
Raut said the latest programme covers 292 talukas in 26 districts with irrigation potential of 32,160 hectares. The total cost of the project is Rs 260 crore.
