14 Haryana prisons to get mobile phone jammers by March'16

Aiming to curb criminal activities carried out from jails using mobile phones, Haryana Police on Friday decided to install mobile phone jammers at 14 prisons in the next four months.
In the first phase, jammers would installed in districts near to the national capital including Gurgaon and Faridabad.
Currently the state has 21 districts, and 19 of them have operational prisons.
The construction work of prisons at Rewari and Panipat is in the process.
"It was a long-standing demand of our police force. It would be helpful in preventing crime operated from jails," said Parminder Rai, Haryana DG (Prisons).
"Earlier also police have recovered many mobile phones from criminals during surprise checks at Bhondsi (Gurgaon) and other district jails. Couples of days earlier six mobile phones were recovered from Bhondsi jail," he said at the inauguration of a two-day police training programme at the district jail here.
The jammers will be installed by Electronic Corporation of India Limited (ECIEL), a Hyderabad-based company, at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

Rai said prisons have organised various training programmes for rehabilitation of inmates once they are out of the jail.
Yamuna Nagar jail is famous for inter locking tiles, Ambala for furniture, Gurgaon for biscuits and chocolates, Sirsa and Bhiwani prisons are famous for bakery products.
At the programme, attended also by former Tihar jail head Kiran Bedi, he said that the central government ambitious project "Make in India" will be emulated here by "Make in Prisons" and also IT education to the prisoners will help to move forward digital India campaign nationwide.
