14 militants of 3 outfits surrender

Fourteen militants altogether belonging to three separate outfits, today surrendered along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition before the police in Assam's Karbi Anglong district.
The militants gave themselves up before Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police M J Mahanta here. They include seven from United Peoples' Liberation Front (UPLF), four from Karbi National Liberation Army (KNLA) and three of the Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT).
The surrendered UPLF militants have been identified as Naisring Parbosa, Anep Langthasa, Tushi Bodo, Manik Haflongbar, Suhit Nabensa, Rohito Kemprai and Bidyut Langthasa and they deposited a M21 Chinesemade rifle, a SBBL gun, a Germany-made 9 MM pistol and two Chinese hand grenades, SP Mahanta said.
The KNLA militants have been identified as Songja Tokbi, Kensing Ronghang, Arun Engti and Kamsing Rongpi and they deposited a AK-47 rifle, two magazines of AK-47 rifle, a broken magazine of AK-47 rifle, 29 rounds of ammunition, a 9 mm pistol, seven rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 13 live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition and six live rounds of 12 bore cartridge, the SP added.
The surrendered militants from KPLT include Probhat Singnar, Rajib Singnar and Francis Terang and they depoisted a Chinese hand grenade.
Operation in the entire district was stepped up following the killing of Hamrem Superintendent of Police N N Goswami in last June with several militants of different outfits either being killed or arrested.
Mahanta claimed that the present strength of UPLF in the district was 20 and KPLT'S strength was 24.
