14-year-old donates organs

: A 14 year-old in Kerala has become the youngest person to donate his organs and give a new lease of life to three persons after he was declared brain dead following a mishap.
P U Vivek Krishnan, an eigth standard student, hailing from Thaikattuserry in Chertalla near here, had dived into a water tank near his house on Sunday last when he was caught in the muddy slush and drowned.
Though he was rushed to a hospital, the doctors declared him brain dead.
Vivek's father, Unnirkishnan Nair, decided to donate the organs of his son to help save the lives of at least three persons.
The boy's liver was donated to a 55-year-old man from Thrissur, a kidney was transplanted on a 22-year-old B.Tech student and another kidney was given to a 42-year-old woman. His eyes have been sent to an eyebank.
The private Lakeshore hospital's Multiorgan transplant Director, Dr Philip G Thomas, led the expert team during the transplant.
