Devotees performed meditation before the memorials of Aurobindo and his spiritual mentor "The Mother" at the Aurobindo Ashram, established in 1926 by the revolutionary turned philosopher.
The visitors were also let into the room where Aurobindo had carried out his spiritual experiments.
Aurobindo was the first political leader in the country to openly put forward, in his newspaper Bande Mataram, the idea of complete independence for the country, before he turned to spiritualism in 1910.
