15 nonagenarians felicitated by NGO

Fifteen nonagenarians was felicitated at a recent programme in the city to make them feel they are an invaluable part of society.
The event 'Nabatipar' (beyond 90), organised by NGO 'Kolkata Cultural Centre', gave them an opportunity to share stories and anecdotes from their life.
Former High Court Chief Justice Chittatosh Mukherjee handed over citations to all 15 veterans, including 104-year-old ex-JU professor Dr Amiya Kumar Chatterjee.
Chatterjee spoke for 15 minutes, giving insights into his day-to-day activities and engagements.
Poet Rajanikanta Sen's grandson and former head of the chemistry department of St Xavier's College Dilip Kumar Roy, eminent social worker Ganesh Ghosh, writer Sarojmohan Mitra, businessman Taraknath Mukherjee, who has been running a grocery shop for over seven decades, former West Bengal minister and lawyer Kashi Kanta Maitra and Arati Dasgupta were also felicitated at the programme.
The former HC chief justice said the nonagenarians were an inspiration to him.
"After coming here and seeing them, all I can feel is that I am not ageing anymore," he said.
Swami Suparnanda Maharaj of RKM Golpark, who was also present at the programme, said events such as this one recognises and respects the rights of the elderly.
