Around 1,000 persons first held a "mahapanchayat" and later a protest outside the Samdari police station demanding arrest of the murderers of one Gularam Bheel, SP, Barmer, Hemant Sharma told PTI over telephone.
The mob burnt tyres, blocked the road and pelted stones at the police who were trying to remove them from the area, the SP said, adding that 15 persons, including six policemen, were injured in the incident.
A case would be registered and those accused of indulging in violence would be arrested, he said.
Barmer District Collector and SP are camping in the area to supervise the law and order situation, which was said to be under control.
Gularam Bheel, resident of Luni town of Jodhpur district and who belongs to Samdari, was allegedly murdered by a person of higher caste in mid-April. The Jodhpur police had arrested one person in connection with the murder, the officer said.
