16.81 lakh cases pending in Bihar subordinate courts

About 16.81 lakh civil and criminal cases are pending in subordinate courts in Bihar for which the state government is increasing the number of judges.
A total 14.15 lakh criminal and 2.66 civil cases are pending in the different courts of the state, Law Minister Narendra Narayan Yadav said in reply today to a short notice question of CPI Kedar Pandey in the legislative council.
The minister accepted that shortage of judges was a big hindrance in early disposal of pending cases.
He said 204 posts in superior judiciary service and 365 posts of sub-judge in junior division are lying vacant in different courts of the state and the process to fill vacant posts was on.
At present 299 judges of superior judiciary (ADG, civil judge), 193 sub-judges of the senior division (CJM, ACJM) and 426 judges of lower judiciary (registrar, munsif and SDJM) are working today in the state.
Yadav said seven districts - Banka, Supual, Araria, Kisanganj, Seikhpura, Lakhisarai and Arwal does not have subordinate courts due to non-availability of infrastructural facilities.
