16 killed in heavy rains in China
Press Trust of India Beijing At least 16 people have been killed and over four lakh people were affected due to heavy rains and hailstorms in southern parts of China during last week, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) said today.
The ministry said on May 25 to 27 and 28 to 31, two spells of heavy rain occurred in the southern part of China, leading to casualties in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other provincial regions.
The heavy rain led to other disasters including floods, landslides, mudslides and others.
Three people are missing in the heavy rain, the ministry said.
The MCA said from 29 to 30 of May, strong wind and heavy hail hit parts of Northwest and North China, affecting almost 4,20,000 people, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
