At least 16 more IEDs were today recovered from villages in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills district, a day after nearly 50 IEDs were recovered from nearby villages, the police said.
The 16 IEDs, planted by outlawed Garo National Liberation Army militants, were seized at Pathalgre village. They were targetted at the security forces, IG (Operations) G H P Raju said.
He said a special team of the state police commandos also busted the camp of the outfit in the Durama hills range in the district.
Yesterday, the police teams recovered 47 IEDs and successfully diffused them besides several Molotov cocktails from the area where the operation is on.
There was also a brief exchange of fire with GNLA cadres who escaped the raid and left behind the IEDs, Raju said.
Formed in 2010, the GNLA is active in all five districts in the Garo Hills region and in part of West Khasi Hills district and has been involved in kidnapping, killing and extortion.
