16 people sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering two men

Sixteen people have been sentenced to life inprisonment by a local court which found them guilty of killing two people over a dispute relating to illegal mining, a public prosecutor said.
After examining prosecution and defence witnesses and going through the material on record, Special Sessions Judge P K Godha awarded life imprisonment to the guilty, public prosecutor Vivek Sharma told PTI here today.
Those convicted attacked Bana Singh, Dilip Singh, Lalji Ram, Rajesh, Dilip, Kailash, Bhagirath, Premnarayan and Jojan Singh with lethal weapons at Nijma village on April 19, 2012, he said.
He said that they attacked the victims over a dispute relating to illegal mining at Nijma village, adding that the attack left Bana Singh and his son Dilip Singh dead, while others were injured.
After the incident, the victims lodged a complaint at the Kotwali police station which investigated and filed a charge sheet against the accused under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
He said that Narayan Singh (36), Bhagwat Singh (35), Ghisulal Singh (52), Thaka Singh (30), Nepal Singh (32), Govardhan Singh (30), Boni Singh (30), Mohan Singh (35), Narayan Singh (21), Shivlal Singh (40), Laxman Lal (21), Darbar Singh (40), Bana Singh (28), Sanju Lal (20), Hukum Singh (38) and Govardhan Singh (60) have been sentenced to life inprisonment.
He said that one of the accused, Kesar Singh (80), was absolved in the case for lack of evidence against him.
